Like many boys of his village, Lhakpa Rangdu was also started working as a porter for expeditions when he was just starting his teenage years in the early 1980s. He slowly worked his way up the ladder from porter to cook, then to climbing Sherpa, and finally achieved his IFMGA/UIAGM certification of International Mountain Guide in 2018. Over his three-decade long climbing career Lhakpa Rangdu has summited Everest at least 11 times. Today the 53-year-old works as a mountain guide and certified training instructor and lives with his family in Kathmandu. He is also a keen photographer.
